Senior Night
By: Calaysia Fullwood
Tuesday, April 18 was senior night for the Varsity baseball team. Senior night is when the seniors of the team celebrate their last home game. It was very sad but also precious because they're celebrating closing one stage in their lives and opening another. Many of the underclassmen had a few thoughts about senior night and the seniors of the team. Shane Gaymon, 10th, said, “Senior night is always sad but seems to sneak up on us every year. This year, the senior night’s weather reflected everyone’s mood: gloomy and sad. We had a lot of seniors that will be missed next year.” Seniors will always be apart of the team and always will be remembered. All the seniors are special to Coach Kremer, and they all bring a certain level of skill to the team. Even though it rained out after two innings, it still was a special night.

The baseball team at Crestwood High School is a devoted and passionate team. They have faced many obstacles during the season, but the team has triumphed through. Baseball, like the other sports, requires everyone to be committed to giving their best effort in order to achieve a win. Baseball doesn’t depend solely on the “star,” but on the entire team; every sport is a team effort.
Baseball is just as competitive as basketball and football. Each person wants to bring home a win for the team; each person wants to feel victorious. The team knows that the others they are facing will be striving to win also, so they try to do better.
Shane Gaymon, 10th, remarked, “Our season is going okay. We have been able to compete with many teams this season. A good team starts with a good defense, and that’s something we’ve strived towards this year.” As evidenced by his remark, baseball makes a person more ambitious and disciplined as that individual tries to contribute to the team being a great one. Baseball, though not heavily mentioned when discussing sports, is important. It still contributes to the growth of the people on the team - the players, the coaches, and anyone else involved.

Even though basketball season is over, one of America's beloved and iconic sports - baseball - is just getting started.
The JV baseball team is off to a rough start, but they continue to get better each game. So far the season has been tough for them but they continue to keep pushing and try to find ways to improve. They just play one game at a time and strive to win. Their record is 0-2-0, meaning zero wins, 2 losses, and zero ties.
Some students believe that a rough beginning can sometimes lead to a great end. Former JV baseball player, Joshua Simon, 10th, stated “The JV baseball team is doing bad right now, but that doesn't mean the entire season will be bad. There’s always room for improvement.” Even though the JV baseball team’s record is not looking so good, they still have a couple of games to go. Freshman, Malaysia Fullwood, stated, “I think that the JV baseball team can eventually get better, they just have to buckle down and get as serious as the Varsity baseball team.” If the JV players remain focused and continue working hard, progress will show.
The players aren't the only ones who have been putting forth the effort. Their coach, Thomas Nock, has been balancing being an Algebra teacher and helping the JV baseball team improve. It's difficult trying to manage school work and after-school activities, but somehow the players and the coaches manage to pull it off.
The season so far for the JV baseball team might not be where they want to be, but if they stay dedicated and become efficient they’re bound to achieve success.
